Unit 2 In class asignment six

Yael uses the underlying premise that the writers claimed to have created the series to have a story which would have input from it's viewers. Even with the ARG example she used, she chose an example in which viewer contribution was more explicit. She outlined her paper tying in her thesis very well.

Rhetorical Process outlined by Yael
The addition of the ARG is what makes LG15 different and what draws people in. She gives an example of how the ARG works in order to give an idea of what alternate reality gaming is. In conclusion, LG15 draws people in because the fan base know that the creators want to hear from them and include their input in the series.

Unit 2 In class assignment 5

I believe that YouTube falls into the little film market and the little T.V market. Continuous series such as LonelyGirl15 cash in on the elements of the little T.V market producing 1-3 minute episodes. It encompasses this new idea that the viewer no longer has to watch the rigid hour or half hour installment of T.V. A series can be developed through shorter installments continuing from episode to episode. There are those self produced YouTube videos that have complete plots they carry through a complete idea as in a real film. Although they do not adhere to the strict time installment set forth by Hollywood producers.

Matt
I agree with your series being a little like T.V and a little like Cinema; but what does his have to do with the article.
Ling
Most YouTube videos are not longer that ten minutes, but it includes lots of elements considered to be a film.
Fred
Time does put it into its own category. But there are short films that are viewed at film festivals how is this different.
John
Some T.V shows are less than a twenty minute interval this is not the case for all shows.

Anti-Hilary Clinton Video
Very dramatic video. Ironic because Hilary's biggest base of support is woman and the feminist vote, and the personleading the charge against her was a woman. Take off of an apple commercial which portrays Hilary as a dicatator.
Anti- Barack Obama video
Takes an original video and interlaces its own opinion into it. It was formed aalamost as a debate in hich after each new idea Obama presented a counter picture or arguement was presented. The video was more of an one sided debate not always using sound counter arguement.
Anti-McCain Video
This video showed how McCain changes his mind and does not have steady opinions on important issues. He tries to gain votes from different types of people and ends up contradiciting himslef and loosing both sides.

Unit two-asignmnet number two

Lonelygirl15 Synopsis
Th Lonelygirl series is introduced with a girl named Bree, who is home schooled because she comes from a very religious family. She spends most of her time in her room with her only visitor being a friend named Daniel who she refers to as DanielBeast. As an outlet in order to pass her time she created a blog page where she talks about her life, and talks to her stuffed animal purple monkey, and does these skits "Proving Science Wrong." As the series progresses tension starts to build between Bree and Daniel. We start to see them fighting whether it be over something that Bree's father asked Daniel to do, or just some bickering. It comes out that Daniel does not completely understand Bree's religion, and this forms difficulty in their relationship. Even after their fighting DanielBeast comes through for Bree like no other friend has done for her before. Bree is asked to be in an important ceremony for her religion. She must diet and memorize a lot of information for the ceremony. At the same time she starts to want to go out with Daniel more. Against her parents wishes she sneaks out of the house in order to go to parties and hang out with Daniel's friends. She decides to do what is best for her and starts to make her own decisions for a change.
Normal videos vs. Swimming Video
In the swimming video there is the addition of music, which adds to the feeling of the video. In addition in the regular videos the camera is stationary its a one on one with Bree. Where as in the swimming video the camera followed her every action. The cinemotagraphy was much better in the swimming video.
What works about LonelyGirl15 being Web 2.0
As a result of the series being made on the internet, the writers can take feed back from the viewers. The outcome of the series is not scripted, it changes according to what the audience wants. Each video is produced in short incraments, with different possible outcomes. The show can be taken in any direction the viewers want.

Unit Two assignment one

Unit Two
What is appealing about Lonelygirl15
The Lonelygirl is appealing to many people because of her innocence and feeling for those people out there who watch her videos. She often times responds to comments on her video in her video blogs. She also encompasses what is going on in American culture, the lack personal interaction, and addiction to the internet. Now people can access the inner ideas and feelings of an average person.

The video bloggers of YouTube are not speaking their own language many times they say ideas that we are all feeling, just common everyday problems or annoyances. It is important that people of our generation are able to witness people with similar thoughts so that they should see that they are not crazy or alone. These YouTube videos unite
youth of our culture and make them feel that they share their lives with others.

Could YouTube Change the World
Many people believe that the younger generation learning the new technology and going onto YouTube to post videos can change the world. YouTube can change the world in the way that the world will be technologically based, no longer will people need to meet in person or try to get things published down because they can have their thoughts be video taped and viewed. People respond to visual thoughts and now the average person can put their own opinion out into the world. YouTube will change the way that people interact with each other and view other people with different backgrounds. People may come from different places but share common ideas and fears.

My life can be a part of the world.
There is an idea that you can put something out to the entire world to view and that is an intriguing idea to many. Your simple life can be worthy of being viewed but millions of individuals all over the world. To many this gives importance to their lives that other people are viewing it and possibly taking something out of it.
Are you more important electronically than you are in real life?

In the Article "The Information Empire" by, Mark Poster he states, "The best recent example of couner productive tactics is Al-Quada's murderous acts of September 11, 2001, playing as they did right inot the hands of George W. Bush and his crew in thier bellicose, hypernationalist designs" (317)
The September 11, 2001 attack is a good example of an action which had the opposite effect of what it's intentions were, the attack fed right inot George W. Bush's nationalist desire and hunge for war.

Media Irony and In class Asignment number 3

MEDIA IRONY
In the ad, the Mac says that the PC "is a wizard with numbers and dresses like a gentleman". The PC is able to say that the Mac is "better with creative stuff", but quickly qualifies such behavior as "completely juvenile and a waste of time".
Wait... I thought Apple was the one running the slander campaign?

In Class asignment number three: a broad introduction to the Web 2.0 paper

The internet has become a universal way of communicating. Web 2.0 allows many people whether through Avatar sites, YouTube or blogging to add information to the internet. The popularity of these sights has added to the communication and sharing of people all over the world. Now people can share things such as movies and pictures through the internet without having to be a computer wiz.

Cubism and what this picture means to me

This image struck me because chagal took an everyday situation such as a meal and broke it up into pieces and put it back together. Some of the peices are not exactly put together right or some of them are missing this is very interesting. He was able to take every day objects and take away a paice of them drawing attention to these objects and making people study them. Sometimes all it takes is a few peices to be removed for people to notice there beauty. He didnt see art as being rigid. I look at fruit everyday and would never see it like this.

Time Magazine article peer review

The time article is very shortly summarized, more information may be necessary in order to understand her opposition with the article. The essay focuses more on her objections with the internet rather without thoroughly describing why “you” is the person of the year, and how that applies to the internet. She gives a statement about the article but fails to acknowledge why now the internet has become so important, even though it was invented over sixty years ago. It is necessary to discuss more of the technological advances that allow people to unite and share more of themselves. The summary is very broad but all the ideas represented are original and portray the essence of the Time article. The summary may be more helpful if you were previously familiar with the article.
Her point of disagreement is clearly stated in the article. The article points out that the reason why you are the person of the year is because of Web 2.0 people can come together and share a part of you with other people, and maybe even help others. Lev Grossman seems to be aggrandizing the internet and Yael seems to believe that the internet has its flaws. As stated in the last line of the opening paragraph “Examining information on Internet addiction leads one to question this idea, as the negativity of the Internet may outweigh the positive.” The time person of the year presented a band wagon effect, the article held under assumption that the internet is universally beneficial.
It seems that Yael argued very well a basic argument against the flaws of over use of the internet. It was more of a general argument against the essence of the Time article, rather than taking issue with a specific point. Although by the end of the paper her argument against the flaws of the internet were very nicely summed up and presented. She gave good proof as to the flaws of the internet and tackled her thesis in an individual well thought out way. I believe that her evidence was well organized and she gave examples for all different types of people she did not just think about herself.

peer avatar characterization

Yael is the type of person who is fun loving yet a tom boy at the same time. You can tell by her interests tat she is not a girly girl, she likes playing sports and watching active comedies like Happy Gilmore. She seems like the type of person who feels at home around guys, and would cringe at the thought of a day at a beauty spa. Yael would be a great person to go to a baseball game with, and enjoy some hot dogs

In class asignment number two

I believe that the average person enjoys using these Avatar sites because it givs them a gateway to see into other people's lives, and a way to express their creativity. These sites have become the social networking system of our generation. These Avatar sites give you a chance to jump start a new friendship or keep in touch with old firends. The Avatar site allows you to access perosnal information about other people so that you can make judgements about whether you want to be friends with them. The avatar site represents the mixer of our generation. It no longer takes time to get to know someone now you can view their personality profile and see what they are like.

In Class Writing #1

Each segment had its own identity not necessarily connected to the portion before. At different points the noises went from (high) to (low), (deep) to (soft), and then to (harsh) to (pleasent). The noises (looped) around- reception based critique. It sounded like music that one would not listen to on an average day -band wagon effect-. At one point it sounded like when your television looses transmission and the noise is (muffled)-reception based critique-. It became (staticy) and then changed to (melodious) and (calming). There were pauses in between each section, (subtle) transitions, not quite enough for there to be silence -reception based critique.
